Planning Commission

The City of Bay Minette Planning Commission is a group of volunteer citizens appointed by the Mayor and City Council. They review and make decisions regarding proposed subdivision developments within the City of Bay Minette. They also review Rezoning and Annexation requests and make recommendations to the City Council and the Board of Adjustment.

The Planning Commission meets on the second Thursday of every month at 8:00 a.m. at City Hall. These meetings are open to the public. For more information on placing an item on the agenda, please contact Clair Dorough at (251) 580-1650.

Board of Adjustment

The Zoning Board of Adjustment is responsible for reviewing Variances, Special Exception Permits and Zoning Administrative Appeals.

The City of Bay Minette has adopted the 2018 Building Code. New codes will take effect January 1, 2022.

The following Building Codes were adopted by Ordinance 962 on April 2, 2012:

  • International Plumbing code, 2012
  • International Residential Code, 2012 (as amended, please see ordinance)
  • International Energy Conservation Code, 2012 (as amended, please see ordinance)
  • Baldwin County Supplemental Code for Residential Structures in addtion to the IRC, 2012 (as amended, please see ordinance)
  • National Electric Code, 2011 for Commercial Buildings and Residential Building containing more than two (2) dwelling units
  • International Fire Code, 2012 (as amended, please see ordinance)
  • Local Wind Load Code-3 second gust winds: applicable to the 2012 IRC only

The State of Alabama adopted the 2009 IECC which requires Duct Leakage Testing.  Any HVAC permit acquired after January 1, 2014 will require Duct Leakage Testing.
